FORESTS ON FAST TRACK!

The Kerala Development and Innovation Strategic Council (KDISC) has joined hands with Nature’s Green Guardian Foundation (NGGF) in order to protect and promote Kerala’s terrestrial ecosystems, and help the state mitigate the adverse climate changes that our high population density and unscientific, rapid urbanization have caused.

This novel technique, developed by Prof. (Dr) Akira Miyawaki of Yokohama, Japan, makes it possible to have strips of thick forests in urban areas.  More importantly, it will ensure 100-150 years of growth in a matter of 10 years!

The advantages of the Forests on Fast Track are multi-fold.   These green jungles in urban spaces will help preserve indigenous varieties of plants, nourish the soil, replenish our ecosystems, and neutralize the harsh effects of climate change.

The project is being implemented as a partnership effort of various Governmental and non-Governmental agencies. Miyawaki Afforestation project was launched on 29th January 2020, followingly, in 10 districts across Kerala, 10-20 cents of land were identified and planted the saplings for developing the forest.
