Virtual Tribal Employment Exchange
A project to match the supply of educated tribal youth with the demand for their services by employers in the market.
The Scheduled Tribes Development Department (STDD) has been implementing a large number of supply-driven training and livelihood programs for the tribal population that comprises 1.45% of the Kerala population, ie., about 5 lakhs consisting of 1.46 lakhs of families residing in about 7000 settlements. As there is no systematic matching between available skills of tribal youth and potential employers in the market, STDD proposed a Virtual Tribal Employment Exchange (VTEE) Model to mediate between the supply of educated tribal youth and the demand for their services in the market.
Aims & Objectives
- Increase the sustained participation of tribal youth in the labour markets through enhanced skills, strengthened coping strategies, and hands on experience through tailored internships.
- Identify industries who may be willing to register on the Employment Exchange to give a few jobs to tribal youth.
- Retooling and skilling tribal youth who abandoned government jobs that they had obtained to return to their communities.
- Run appropriately tailored courses as a pilot at the MRS schools with an entry and exit evaluation attached.
