K-DISC initiated an innovative project regarding the use of algae in the water to extract biofuel, put forward by Shri Vishal Prasad Gupta, an Engineer from Jharkhand and this made headlines in November 2021. Progress with the project: - Constitution of Advisory Committee: Includes experts from Kerala Agriculture University, Jyothi Engineering College, Thrissur, Government Engineering College, Thrissur, Catholicate College, Pathanamthitta, and Groningen University, Netherlands. - Phase 1 of the Preliminary Feasibility Study for the extraction of biofuel from Water Hyacinth is completed. A draft report on the results obtained is submitted and phase 2 has begun. - Pilot study on Microalgae cultivation is recommended.
3.ബയോഎഥനോൾ
K-DISC received a proposal on “Feasibility Assessment for Bioethanol Production from Water Hyacinth Biomass” from CSIR-NIIST, Trivandrum, Government Engineering College, Barton Hill, Trivandrum, Centre for Research on Aquatic Resources Sanatana Dharma College, Alappuzha and Biovent Innovations Pvt Ltd, University of Kerala, Trivandrum. The major deliverable from the project is scientifically validated data on the feasibility of a water hyacinth biomass-based bioethanol plant. The feasibility report would provide a comprehensive assessment of the technical and commercial viability of such a plant and would help in future policy decisions and funding support from the government.
4.ബയോ-സിഎൻജി
K-DISC received a proposal on “Feasibility study of High-Pressure Biogas Generation for Sustainable Transportation” from CET and TrEST Park - Esylys LLP (Industry Partner). The High-Pressure Biogas Generation and Bio-CNG Conversion System (HIPR Bio project) proposed aims at developing, demonstrating, and testing cost-effective technology for generating Bio-CNG from biodegradable solid wastes on a decentralized scale. The proposed project intends to focus on methods for the production and enrichment of biogas in an efficient manner. The project also envisages research and development on the biological compression of enriched biogas.
