The ‘One Local Government One Idea’ (OLOI) program, launched by K-DISC and KILA in February 2023. It aims to empower Local Self-Government Institutions (LSGIS) in Kerala to develop innovative solutions for their second generation developmental problems. It involves capturing and curating the problems faced by LSGIS, identifying innovative solutions with the help of a Community of Practice, and employing methods such as hackathons, developing proof of concepts, etc. and providing support to LSGIS during implementation and scaling up.

ONE LOCAL GOVERNMENT ONE IDEA (OLOI) – Taking Local Governments in Kerala to new heights through Innovation

Aims to equip Local Self-Government Institutions (LSGIS) in Kerala to develop innovative solutions for their second generation developmental problems

  • Help local governments to undertake transformational projects going beyond conventional paradigms of problem-solving
  • Support local governments for interventions in local economic development, enterprise building, service delivery and governance through innovation
  • Establish a mechanism for local governments, jointly with academic institutions, experts, practitioners and startups for real-life problem solving

Implemented in collaboration with the LSG  Department, Kerala Institute of Local Administration (KILA), Centre for Management Development (CMD), Integrated Rural Technology Centre (IRTC) and Kerala Startup Mission (KSUM)

Cop

Groups of people informally bound together by shared expertise and passion for a joint enterprise – backbone of the innovation initiatives of K-DISC. Engage pro bono in the process of collective learning in a shared domain facilitating transfer of knowledge and promotion of innovative solutions.

33 LSGIS identified solid waste as a key issue. 6 solutions selected sanitary pad recycling, plastic upcycling, bio-coated packaging solutions.

35 solutions received; 4 selected. Technologies: Al surveillance, loT alerts, bio- repellents.

Urban Transition Hackathon

16 applications from 11 districts. Technologies: STPs, HVAC retrofits, electric tricycle
